If you look at the title of this post you might think I am starting to lose it. What can a door panel moving a car have anything to do with the diagnosis and treatment of pain?
If you can understand this analogy, then you can understand why the medical establishment is incapable of identifying the cause of your pain through the use of the MRI.
Here is the explanation. Let’s say I decide to take a sledge hammer to the passenger side door panel of your car. Then I let the air out of your tires.
I now say I want you to move your car. So you turn the car on and you put the car in gear but the car doesn’t move. I ask your knowledgable medical establishment practitioner what is wrong with the car and they are going to swear that the door panel is busted in. They are going to swear to this case. They are going to suggest that if I can’t see that the door panel is busted in that I must be blind. It is so obvious that the door panel is busted in.
This is the exact equivalent to what happens when you have pain and try to get a diagnosis through an x-ray or MRI. They are taking a picture of the structures of your body and finding aspects that are not what they used to be. They use this ridiculous but highly effect manipulation of you by showing you a picture of the structural abnormality with the intent of trying to convince you that this must be causing your pain because here is the picture of this thing. This is just like the busted in door panel. It is so obvious that the door panel is busted in. How can that not be what is preventing the car from moving? No attempt to understand whether the symptom could ever be created by the supposed cause.
I would think that for most people it is clear that the busted in door panel is not stopping the car from moving. By understanding a mechanism of injury and correlating the symptoms to a specific cause that can possibly create the symptom, we are able to understand the cause of the symptom and treat it appropriately and effectively.
In the case of the car, the mechanism of injury was me removing the air from the four tires. The symptom was the inability of the car to move. The cause was the lack of air in the tires. The resolution was to put air in the tires. Ultimately the car was able to function perfectly, even with the busted in door panel. And in fact, the door panel requires on intervention to allow the car to function perfectly.
In the case of pain, I have proven that the cause of most pain is due to muscle weakness or imbalance. The mechanism of injury is the performance of some functional task that could not be performed because of a lack of strength which caused one or more muscles to strain causing them to create pain.
The fact that some structural variation was found like arthritis, herniated disc, stenosis or meniscal tear in the same region where pain is being experienced is in most cases irrelevant. Just like the busted in door panel and the tires being out of air were both assoicated with the same car.
Don’t get caught by the slight of hand trick that the medical establishment uses to con you into getting treatment on something that is most likely doing nothing and has nothing to do with your symptoms.
Buying a very expensive door panel will do nothing to get the car to move when the cause of the lack of movement is no air in the tires.

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate the positive feedback. I am trying to provide information to the lay person to help them make an informed decision about how to address their pain. Even last week, the College of Physicians who sets guidelines on how physicians should perform, identified that for low back pain, the use of x-rays or MRIs to establish a diagnosis should be stopped. They noted that the evidence was rigourous in proving that the practice of utilizing diagnostic testing to identify the cause of pain is invalid. I have been stating this for years. There has been a tremendous amount of evidence to prove there is no correlation between these findings and pain. You would think that this information should get tremendous news coverage. Nothing but a small blurb in the NY Times. What does this do for the common person who does not read the NY Times. It sets him up to conintue to get unnecessary diagnostic tests from physicians who are going against the guidelines of the very body that is responsible for determining how they should practice. It is revolting to me that people are not privy to this information. That is what this blog is all about. I defy anybody to attempt to dispute the information I provide here. It is based on tremendous theoretical understanding and years of clinical practice. I greatly appreciate you informing others of the website and blog. The only way to overturn the existing system is to come together and reject it and look to a system that clearly works based on theory and clinical experience. Mine.
Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
