CASE STUDY II: BOB
Symptoms: Severe pain left gluteal region and front thigh. Unable to lie on side.
Initial Diagnosis: Lumbar Radiculitis. Diagnostic testing EMG and X-ray showed decreased nerve conduction velocity in left lower extremity. Patient referred to neurosurgeon for possible surgery.
Mitchell Yass' Diagnosis: Severely inflamed left piriformis and quad from overuse due to racquetball.
Mitchell Yass' Treament: Moist heat and massage to left piriformis and quad, stretching and aggressive strengthening exercises. Corrected the imbalance between quads and hamstrings.
Result: In 6 weeks, Bob had a severe decrease in pain and was playing racquetball again.
